13 years

In July 2016, I turned 13 years old, and I can't believe it! In these years I have learnt sooo many things and I really liked the idea of writing 13 things I've learnt in 13 years, so here it goes...

1. Kindness in the face of nastiness never fails

It can be extremelllyyy tough to contain yourself and not turn sour on somebody who is treating you badly, but the hard work always pays off. By returning their unkind words, that's degrading you as a person and although it's often said to be the perfect solution, you're only salting the wound. Kindness is always tested when nastiness comes your way, and I know you are better than fighting back!

2. There's a hugeee difference between a 'crush' and love

A crush: you like them, they appeal to you, and it's pretty no strings attached. Love is unconditional, there is a true connection, and it's a much stronger feeling towards somebody. This difference holds great significance and it will come in handy someday I promise!

3. It's good to be a little forward sometimes

There is no good in 'aiming' things at people, especially if it could target many different people. If you want somebody to know something, than tell them face to face. It's sooo much better and that way you can get your point across much easier and quicker.

4. Don't publicise your issues

I call it 'hanging your dirty washing online'. The amount of disagreements caused by social media is unbelievable. Even if you don't necessarily want to clear things up, just keep it offline, and you will then have no worries.

5. No amount of makeup can make anybody a nicer person

It sounds cliche, non? It is however very true. Makeup can cover your face, but not your personality. People aren't always what they seem...

6. It's OK to love yourself!

I feel like nowadays it's easy to be considered as 'big headed' or 'self centered' to love who you are, but it's really not! If you think about it, you have to live inside your body for a lifetime, so look after it and love how it is, because you won't really get another!

7. Treat parents with respect

It honestly breaks my heart to see people mistreating their parents for no reason. They do sooo much for you and you should always be grateful for that. I understand there are many circumstances and this is a very controversial topic in a way, but initially, anybody who loves and cares for you, are of great significance in your life and it's so essential to show them that.

8. Don't be afraid to say no

You shouldn't really have to do anything you don't want to do. This is your life. Your comfort zone. Your way of thinking. If the idea of something is making you uncomfortable, than just politely decline and your problem is solved....

9. The grass isn't always greener

Another cliche saying that is oh so accurate. I've learnt this several ways, which perhaps one day I could discuss more when I am more comfortable with that idea. But for now, this is very important to remember and consider when making big decisions. Not everything is as it may seem, which leads me onto my next point...

10. You never know what goes on behind closed doors...

A metaphor that applies to daily life an awful lot! Like I say, not everything is as it seems and you never know what somebody could be dealing with at home, so avoid judging people too much. Everybody is fighting their own battles, and however big they may be, they are all equally as important.

11. Treat yo self!

Eat those brownies. Take that bath. Stroke that dog. Whatever floats your boat, just do it once in a while. You deserve it!

12.  Accept it, change it, or leave it

There are three solutions to every problem. You can accept it, but if you can't then you can change it. If you can't change it, then just leave it. Isn't this just the best variety of solutions?

13. Be anything but predictable

Let yourself go a little, and be brave. You never know what's going to happen next and that will be so much more interesting than just being mediocre...

I hope you all enjoyed this little reflective post and hopefully these will help you someday! As always thank you so much for reading.
